I saw this today --

If you’re feeling threatened at this Sunday’s Indianapolis Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium, or if some obnoxious fan near you is dropping the F-bomb left and right for all your kids to hear, or if someone with a sign is blocking your view, help is just a text message away.

This week, the Colts unveiled a new communication system at Lucas Oil Stadium to help keep the peace and assure everyone enjoys the game. Colts officials emphasized this isn’t a response to recent rowdiness during home games, merely a proactive measure using the latest technology available.

Fans who need help should text INDY, followed by a space and the issue and location to 78247. Colts officials are asking fans texting for help to include a seat number if possible. The system can also be used for medical emergencies, but Colts officials said it might be speedier to grab the nearest security person instead.

“This system is for any need a fan might have during a game,” said Larry C. Hall, Colts vice president of ticket operations and guest services. “Even if it’s just a spilled Coke, we don’t want our fans to have to sit in that all game. It’s also to help assure everyone is acting properly.”

The system allows fans to call for help without causing a scene or turning the incident into an altercation between spectators, Hall said. Hall insists Colts officials aren’t being killjoys. The Miami Dolphins were the first team to introduce this system earlier this year, and now about six of the NFL’s 32 teams have the system.

“Everyone has the right to have a good time at the games, but not at anyone else’s expense,” Hall said.

The system is for need, not wants. In other words, Colts fans can’t text for a bucket of popcorn or serving of nachos. “No,” Hall said through a laugh, “We’re not at that stage yet.”

What do you think of this?  Can you send and receive texts in the stadium?

where was this the night the foul mouthed drunk upchucked all over the back of my new hoodie?--like all new ideas there is good and bad -it probably applies more for the single game attendees and visitors than the people who sit in the same seats, same section game after game--

Technology is great, soon we can call 1-800-ban-pats!!! Go Colts!!!

Great idea!!! It also allows security to watch what's going on without the offender knowing that security has been alerted. For personal needs, dial 1-800-Beerman.

Great idea and I hope they keep it even if it is abused. I'm sure they can flag or even block incoming cell numbers that have, in the past, made trivial or outright fallacious alerts.

I like it!!!

"Away from the Ball"

Has anyone read the book "Away from the Ball - The NFL's Off-Field Heroes"?  Of course Dungy is highlighted- he is Part Two.  I opened the book, randomly and the page was about the story of how Dungy got the team ready for New England for the AFC Championship game by telling them a story his mother told him many times - The one of David and Goliath.
We have what appears to be a tough game Monday night, BUT if you look at the combined records of the teams we have each played it doesn't look as tough.
The records of the teams we have played are a combined 19 wins, 20 losses. Their's is 12 wins, 26 losses.  BUT they have played Cincy and KC, two teams that have won ONE game between them! The two teams we played that they haven't are the Bears and GB.
So all I am saying is they are undefeated UNTIL Monday night! "David is coming to meet the new Goliath"!
   GO COLTS!!!!

My article on Bucky and Bucky T-Rex
10/9/2008 2:13 PM
Categories: none selected
This story appears in this week's Westside Community News and West Indianapolis Community News:

Bucky the T-Rex  resides at the The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.  She is the first teenage dinosaur fossil ever found.  As amazing as she is, she can't tell you what the world was like when she lived, what she ate, or how she was discoved.  Luckily for us, Bucky Derflinger, who discoved Bucky will be at the museum to share his stories on Saturday October 11th, from 1-3pm on the Main Floor of the Dinosphere.
Bucky, who is a rancher and rodeo cowboy and lives in South Dakota, discovered his first dinosaur bones at the age of eight.  When he was twenty he discovered two T-Rex, one being Bucky and the other E. D. Cope.
I asked Bucky how Bucky the T-Rex ended up at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.  He replied with this interesting story. 'When I was a little kid, I went to a Museum in Rapid City, SD. They had a T-Rex mounted with it's head way up in the air. I remember being frozen in amazement. I couldn't get that  image out of my head. That single field trip changed my life. When we were in the process of finding a place for this one, I kept thinking back to that day. TCM had contacted us, and they were looking for a juvenile Rex. They flew me out to tour the Museum, and see if this would be a fit. The first day I was there, over 4,000 kids walked thru the door! Everyone was so nice and friendly. They told us about the concept of Dinosphere, and what they would like to do with Bucky. Thinking back to the first time I saw the 'real king of beasts', knowing how I felt, and wanting to share that feeling with as many kids as I could, we realized TCM was it's new home (Didn't hurt that the greatest football team on earth plays in the city either)!'
I asked Bucky to explain what is unique about Bucky T-Rex.  He answered, 'At the time we excavated this Rex, it was number four for all time completeness, and is the most complete juvenile T-Rex anywhere on display. It was also the first Rex found with a furcula or 'wishbone'. This is really cool because it shows the similarities between therapod dinosaurs and birds, and how closely they are related to each other!'
Back home  Bucky, with his wife and daughter, raises black angus cattle and performance quarter horses. He loves his colts and our Indianapolis Colts. He states. 'I get to Indy about three or four times a year. I have so much fun visiting the Museum and my girlfriends(Bucky and Cope are both female)! I've met some amazing people who have become really good friends, and I try to watch the Colts dish out a whoopin' a least a couple times a year!

My Rant!!!!

I was going to post the article I wrote about BuckyRex for the newspaper, but I have a RANT!!!
My ride could not pick me up from the airport today when I got back from Las Vegas, so I had to take a cab. I call Colleen, because she had arrived earlier and had she took a cab to my house, so I asked her how much it was, so I knew how much to get out of ATM (I rarely carry cash) She tells me it was a little over $16.00, and she gave the driver a $20.00, and he put it in his pocket and offered her no change.  She said it was raining hard, so she said nothing to him.
Ok, I get my cab, and as he is pulling up at my house, he tells me he just dropped someone off here earlier. (SO how crazy is THAT, we get the SAME cab driver???)  I hand him a $20.00 and tell him I want $2.00 back. He tells me he does not have any change. I tell him it is his job to have change!!  I was soooo pissed, because not only was he doing this to me, but he had done it to Colleen. I am all for tipping, BUT I SHOULD GET TO DECIDE HOW MUCH TO TIP!  I called his cab compnay and complained (and had Colleen call too) They said someone will be calling to "make it up to me."  Whatever- it is the principle!!
Has anyone else had this happen? Do I need to carry ones, so I have correct amount and get to decide how much to tip??  Or do I never take INDY STAR Cabs again??
Sorry this has NOTHING to do with football... but, thanks for letting me get that out!
