The sentence for Michael Vick has just been announced,  He will serve 23 months in jail and then be on probation for three years.

As an animal lover I don't think this is severe enough.  I loved Michael Vick as a player, he was very exciting to watch, however, what he did was wrong.  He may or may not have been present at all the dog fights, but his money funded them.  He needed to make better decisions as to who he hung with and what happened at his home.

Anyone who harms any animals in bad in my book and should be punished.  I feel bad that this may be the end of his football career, but hopefully this will teach others that harming animals is unacceptable.

What do you think?

Bad publicity is still publicity, maybe dog fighting should be more the focus more so than the celebrity Look what all that money has done the the Vick family. I'm sure mama Vick would rather have her boys as they were before the fame. I can't say the sentence wasn't hard enough. Dog fighting goes on.

There are many other efforts he could have participated in or funded, cancer research, children's hospitals, habitat for humanity, disaster relief. What does he pick, having dogs fight until one drops dead. Disgusting and illegal. I understand some dogs are even stolen and given to the fighting dogs, to kill for practice. Some of the stolen dogs, are crippled first, so they can't escape........Not enough of a penalty.......

I wish there were more "stars" to give than only 5. My critters are a part of the family. I can't imagine ANYONE treating animals like that. As far as the sentence goes, well, I imagine he has lost more than the jail time. His future in football is over, no more endorsements and the stigma of being an amimal abuser will be with him forever. On the surface, it seems he got off light, but in the long haul, he's going to pay a stiff price. Is it enough? We'll see.

I'm an animal lover. It's easy to relate to people, but try interacting with a shark or lion. It's awesome!!! Cats and dogs are domesticated, and reward us with their trust and loyalty. Anyone who would even think about hurting them is an IDIOT, and deseves to spend the rest of their life in jail just as they would do if they committed the same crime against their kid!!!

I think he should of got more time, but he still has the state charges pending also. Hopefully the state of Virgina will add on some time to the end of his federal time.

Okay so I have been pondering this all day....if he would have been sentenced to the 5 years he would not have his life ALTERED for 5 years....obviously he likes to smoke weed...since he had a dirty drop back a few months ago...so look at it like this...if they would have gave him 5 years in a federal pen he would do about 3...and he couldnt have been given probation....this way he does 18-23 months and he has probation to do when he gets out...so that means no drugs, no alcohol, no nothing until that RELEASE date from Probation...so in the long run the sentence he received is more severe then just prison time! :)

Not good. Not severe enough in my book. He should have gotten the 5 years at least.

Sentence was not near severe enough however I could care less if I never hear or read his name in print again (unfortunately this wont happen). I've kicked him to the curb for life!!

Animals typically look up to humans to help them, and for attention and when the animals are trained to fight, they dont know any better, so they do it. And I do believe that is wrong, dogs cant really tell right from wrong if they are not trained correctly. I believe he got a very light sentence. Humans can tell the difference between right and wrong when they break the law but dogs cant.

I do not agree with hurting animals. I do think he is being punished. What about someone being involved in a group of people the killed another being the MPV of the superbowl the next year? Is that fair?
