As I was watching the ESPN special last night covering the top stories of 2007 I was sure when it got down to the top 4 stories that the Colts winning the Super Bowl would be the top srory.  Unfortunately, negativity sells and the Colts great story of triumph over advirsity and doing things the right way lost out to two of the worst moment in sports.

The Michael Vick dogfighting scandal took second place and, drum roll please.....Barry Bonds breaking Hank Aaron's HR record took first place.  What is it about out society that such negativie stories dominate our lives and the news?

The story of the Colts winning the Super Bowl was filled with feel good stories, Peyton finally getting the monkey off his back, he and Coach Dungy both finally winning the BIG one, winning the right way, with high character players, Bill Polian finally winning the BIG one.  I haven't even mentioned the fact that Coach Dungy was the first African American coach to coah in and win a Super Bowl.

Why is it that such a wonderful story with so much goodness can't be the top story of the year?  Why must the bad always dominate the good?  I don't know about you but I am disapointed, not only because I am a Colts fan, but because I believe in doing things the right way and think doing things the right way should be rewarded, not doing things the wrong way.  What do you think?

I cannot agree with you more, but it's because the Colts never get the respect that they deserve. It has always been that way. It really irks me to no end....

The Society we live in and people in general will always value dirt over excellence. Excellence is expected and it's often only when people fall short that we pay any attention. Sad but true. I think in some weird way we must feel better about our selves when someone else is disgraced.

One thing that is funny about the Barry Bonds record breaking home run is this little known fact...Marc Ecko (clothing designer) bought the HR ball that Bonds hit and put a BIG red asterisk on it!!! Ecko then sent it to Canton, Ohio to be displayed in the baseball hall of fame. I am not even kidding, that seriously happened!! Crazy! I wish I had enough money to do something nutty like that lol.

Your right, seems the bad draws higher ratings. But we all know who #1 is.

Unfortunately, You're right. i really don't know what else to say, except that society in general really disapoints me. Lucky for me, I have mycolts.net to restore my faith in people. I'm sure we're not the only people out there with our priorities in order, but it seems that everybody here does!

It is incredibly sad. And I dont ever see it getting any better. I just hope that the COLTS realize that we luv them and are soooooo proud that we have no negativity on our team at all!!! I cant imagine backing another team EVER!!!! Great blog!

I couldn't agree more. I was at a gathering with some friends last night, and had just gotten home when I read your message about the special. I realized there were still a few minutes left, so I hurried and turned it on...just in time to see the Number 1 (?????) story--Barry Bonds. I didn't know at the time where the Colts story had landed, of course, but I was just so disgusted that it wasn't #1 that I just turned the show off. In retrospect, I guess I should have known that a "feel-good" story would never make it to the top--especially on ESPN when that feel-good story was about the Colts!
