Blue Monday

Well I wanted to wait 24 hours before I put down my thoughts on what happened at the Dome yesterday.  It is  BLUE MONDAY, but not for the right reason.  We are all disapointed that the realization has sunk in that we will not be the Super Bowl XLII Champions.

We are however, and always will be the Super Bowl XLI Champions.  Hold on to that my friends, we have reached the summit and will reach it again.  I beleive with the talent on this team that will be returning next year, and a few new faces we acquire throught the draft or free agency, next season will be another great season.

Although this season did not have the storybook ending we had all hoped for, by no means was this a bad season.  Our Colts were beseiged with injuries throughout the year, yet never made excuses.  It was always just "next man up".  For this team to have gone 13-3 and they could have gone 14-2 is amazing and a reflection of the great leadership of the coaching staff, and the work ethic of every player on the team.

It is sad that the execution was not there yesterday when it was so important, but remember, the effort was there to the end.

Let's concentrate on the positive.  I have heard alot of talk on sport talk radio this afternoon that if Tony leaves it's no big deal because he really can't win the big one, that last year he got lucky!!I don't know what these so called fans are thinking, but Tony took a team with less talent last year and never stopped believing in them and his system.  We all know how that turned out, it turned out a championship team.

If Tony stays that is wonderful, but if he chooses to go, whoever is his replacement will continue to stress the same values and ethics and put another team that we can be proud of on the field.

I'm not going top get into the Xs and Os  of what happened yesterday, it really doesn't matter at this point.  What matters is that we are so lucky to have had the teams we have had these past years and will continue to have.  Lets all stick together behind the team and let's support each other in this tough time and believe in blue.

I am a Colts fan 365 days a year I hope you are too.  GO COLTS!!

Hey girl I've been wondering how you are hanging in. Excellent Blog. I went to Target in E'ville. Everyone who was wearing their colors looked like they had been rear ended by a hummer. Just a nod. One little cutie looked so down I just wanted to snuggle him. Fearing being arrested I just nodded solemnly. So I'm finding ways to deal. Some work better than others. You guys rocked the house. They would have had to of taken me out on a stretcher. I think I'd have to be scraped out of my seat. Any body that was looking for a reason to cocoon apreciate the cold bitter winter. Party on...

Yes I am. I still wore my Colts shirt on Monday. I do not stop supporting them because the season ended early. I have had my season tickets for 12 seasons now. We went to the top Once. I know that we can get back again.

I'm still a little Blue. I am thankful for how well we did and trying to look forward in a positive way. In that regard I a looking forward to "the draft", as a way for us to move forward as a team.

I like the title...BLUE MONDAY. Yesterday certainly was that. This morning I heard Jeff Saturday on Q95. Listening to him talk about it all helped. If he can handle it that well as a player, then why can't I as a fan. To the COLTS: Thanks for a great season. Next season in the new Lucas Oil Stadium shall ROCK!!! To the dome: Thanks for the memories. You will be missed.

Another disappointing end to a very good regular season. I am a Colts fan, but this team should have been the one to have won multiple Super Bowls instead of the Patriots. Most every team has injuries (look at the Chargers on Sunday)and backups have to play. But the Colts team was as healthy as it has been all season. Sunday's game was one of the most uninspired efforts I have ever witnessed as a long time observer of professional football. Yes, Peyton has always had the reputation as not performing under pressure, but tipped passes leading to interceptions cannot be entirely his fault. Fumbles after the catch cannot always be where the quarterback throws the ball. Peyton had over 400 yds. through the air. Those critics cannot lay the blame for this one on Peyton. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, and Anthony Gonzales were not "soft" receivers as critics have labeled Colts' receivers in the past. No, the Achilles heal of the Colts was the same one that has been the problem for the last several years, the defense. Whether it was a running play, or a passing play, the Colts defense could not stop the run nor did they pressure any quaterback that was on the field. Is it the scheme, players or a combination of both. The team has a tremendous amount of the salary cap spent on the offensive "stars" and most of the defensive cap money on two players. I believe that the two corners are an upgrade over last year. Freeney has not been as productive as he was before the big contract. And yes, he was double teamed before the big contract. I appreciate the way the Colts players conduct themselves on the field, I abhor the "personalities" and ridiculous "celebrations" to often displayed. I would like to see defensive players drafted that play with heart and a sense of pride to build a defense that Colts fans can be proud of. While I hate to admit this, the offense only has so many years left to get some more titles. The wide receivers are getting older. I think the running backs are better than what the Colts have had on the field in prior years. Maybe Gonzales will get more opportunities in the future, I loved Brandon Stokley in the slot. The Colts need a new, "field stretcher" on the outside. Well enough of my rantings for now; I look forward to the NFL draft and the promise that lies ahead. All I want for the new year is a 4.2 wide receiver that isn't afraid to go over the middle, and crisp routes, a Penn State linebacker that plays the run as well as the pass, a pocket collapsing defensive tackle that puts pressure on the quarterback up the middle, and another Super Bowl. Go Colts!!!!!!!!
