We beat the Chiefs today 13-10 and it was definitely a hard fought game. Since we have a short week I thought I would write today, even before I watch the tape. We will work some long hours Monday and Tuesday to prepare for the Falcons game on Thursday night. And that's the biggest thing about this week. We really don't care what the games look like, we just have to find a way to win them and get that post Thanksgiving rest. Today we completed the first step.
Kansas City had a very good plan on defense. They blitzed and mixed things up well. They were starting a rookie quarterback, so we knew they wouldn't take many chances on offense.
We just couln't get into a rythym on offense and it didn't help that we missed 2 FG's. Getting a working margin and forcing them to throw would have helped us. But we hung in there and had two good drives in the second half to score. The last drive was about 6 minutes and we were faced with the same decision we had in San Diego. 4th and inches inside their 10 yard line. I thought after the Charger game that the smart thing to do would have been to go for it on 4th down and hopefully kick the game winning field goal with no time left. Of course it's easier to do when you're tied rather than behind, but it probably would have been the best thing in San Diego as well. Today we made the first down and ran the time down to win the game.
I thought our defense played well and I know everyone is going to be concerned about the offense and Adam's missed field goals. We are not happy with the way we played but some of that probably won't get corrected until after Thanksgiving when we can get some good practices in. We have had to cut back because of the schedule and our health and I think if we're able to get a win on Thursday, we should be able to play much better down the stretch.
Pittsburgh lost today to the Jets, who only had one win coming into the game. That gives us the second best record in the AFC again and also shows you that there are no easy games. So while we felt we should have played better today, part of winning division championships is doing enough to win in games like this, when you don't play your best.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and we're going to do our best to make it an enjoyable evening for you. We also hope you remember what this Thursday is really all about--being thankful to God for all the good things He has done for us throughout the year. And most of us do have a lot to be thankful for in 2007.
