1987 started a new era in indy, it actually started in 1986, when ron meyer was named the head coach for the last 3 games, for the first time in 9 years, the colts had a winning record finishing 9-7, they made the playoffs and lost to the browns. the offense was pretty much the same players , except for rb, where dickerson, and bentley were the starters, on defense their wasnt many changes. dickerson was the leading rusher (1011 yds) and brooks led the team in receiving (51-722), prior in int. (6), and bickett in sacks (8), brooks was the punt returner, and bentley for kickoffs, it was a very good year for the pro bowl, with hinton, donaldson, solt, dickerson, bickett, and biasucci all making it. in 1988 the colts once again finished 9-7. on offense randy dixon took over for solt, and chris chandler was the qb, on def, joe klecko was the nt, we had 2 new lb's, freddy young, and o'brien alston, freddie robinson took over for nesby glasgow, and chris goode for willie tullis. dickerson led the team in rushing (1659) , and td's (14), and also led the league in rushing, brooks in rec (54-867), tullis in int. (4), and hand in sacks (5), clarence verdin was the punt ret, and bentley for kickoffs, hinton, donaldson, and dickerson made the pro bowl. it was also indy's first monday night football game, and the colts beat the broncos 55-23. 1989, the colts finished 8-8, on offense we added andre rison at wr (round 1), trudeau was back as qb, on def. we added 2 new lb's, jeff herrod, and chip banks, a safety, michael ball, and a nt, harvey armstrong. dickerson led the team in rushing (1311) and td's (7), brooks in rec (63-919), keith taylor in int (7), and hand in sacks (10), verdin was both punt, and kickoff ret. hinton, donaldson, and dickerson made the pro bowl. 1990, was meyers last full season as the coach, and the colts finished 7-9. on offense we added zefross moss, and brian baldinger to the o-line, jessie hester at wr, and a new qb, jeff george (round 1), on def, we added keith taylor at safety. dickerson led the team in rushing (677), and bentley in rec (71-664), prior in int (3), and sam clancy in sacks (7 1/2), verdin was the returner, and he and stark made the pro bowl.
