Blog: Dungy Perspective

San Diego Aftermath

We had a long trip back from San Diego.  A very disappointed group, but we've been there before and I'm sure we'll bounce back.  We did not play our best game and it wasn't all due to the injuries.  We got off to a poor start with 2 kick return touchdowns allowed, a couple of turnovers in the red zone, and just a slow start that allowed the Chargers to get the momentum.

Once we settled down and played a little better we got back in the game but for the second week in a row we didn't make the plays in the fourth quarter to win.  I didn't help us in the last two minutes by taking a time out to try to find out about a questionable measurement and a false start penalty.  When Adam Vinatieri missed the field goal that would have put us ahead, we could have used that extra time out. So all in all, it was a game that we could have won but probably didn't deserve to win.

We suffered a few more injuries in the game, with the most notable being Dwight Freeney going on IR with an injury to his foot.  While it is always tough to have good players get hurt, we'll move forward and other players will pick up the slack for Dwight.  As a team, we are not as down about it as everyone else.  Injuries happen and good teams overcome them.  We had a good practice today and I think we'll come out against K.C. and play very well.  We had this same situation last year after Jacksonville and also in '04 after we lost two in a row around Halloween.  The secret is to stay the course and try not to make too many changes.  We just have to get back to playing solid, fundamental football and hopefully that will start this week.

Well said coach. I must say though that I see the hard work you and the team put in, in action: to come so close to winning even with everything that went wrong. Yes it is kind of disappointing but time to move on. At least this week I get to watch with my family as I will be back home in Indiana for the week. Good luck and Go Blue!!

It has been a tough year with the injuries we have suffered. You always do a great job of never pointing fingers, getting upset, or making excuses. That is why the Colts are champions, your leadership on and off the field is truly inspiring. Good luck this week Go Colts!

I was there at the game. Was a tough lost, but truely felt good to know they didn't beat us, we beat ourselves. Somehow that makes me feel better. It's just a matter of fixing the little things and getting back to colts football. Looking forward to this weeks game. Go Colts!!

It's okay coach - we all know what our team is capable of. Everyone suffers some bumps and bruises and while I have to see anyone get hurt - those that are injured and will not be able to play are still part of the family and will be there to support and help the others along. This team, this organization, the fans...we are not just those things...we are a CONSTANT SUPPORTIVE FAMILY!!!! We love our men in Blue. We are here to see ALL of you through!!!! LOUD & FOREVER PROUD!!!! GOOOOO BLUUUUUE!!!!!

Very disappointing start last week - but great effort to come back. I expect the team to be very motivated this week in the dome - fast and physical. I'm already starting to feel a little sorry for KC - ha, ha. I'll be at the game, and I won't be disappointed if it's not close.

Coach, can't add much to all that has been said here. You and the Colts are true class. Know you are gonna get back to doing the common things in an uncommon way..just like you say in your book. We are praying for all those who are injured. Pastor
