We've had a day to reflect on our loss to the Patriots. It was very disappointing because we had the lead in the 4th quarter and didn't finish them off. But that's the way it is when you play great teams--you have to play the full 60 minutes.
We didn't make the plays down the stretch and some of their key guys stepped up with some great individual plays. Randy Moss had a very good game for them and made the long catch that got them back in the game. Our defense is very disappointed that we didn't close them out, but that's the same feeling that their defense had after last year's championship game. So we have to come back and respond like they did, by getting ourselves ready to play a great second half of the season.
This week will be a tough test with San Diego. They are a talented team that is not playing as consistently as they should. But when teams like this get backed into a corner, you usually see everything that they have. They've got two of the best players in football on their offense in LaDanian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates, so we'll have a challenge similar to New England. And defensively, they're very physical and I'm sure want to rebound after giving up so many yards to Adrian Peterson.
We talked as a team yesterday about not spending too much time dwelling on our loss to the Patriots. We are in a dogfight in our division and need to get back on a winning streak. We've got to practice well this week and eliminate some of the little errors we had vs. the Pats and we'll be OK.
I thought it was humorous that New England wanted the NFL to investigate our stadium and the possibility of us piping in noise. This has been brought up before and it's really an old story with no basis of fact, but it gave them a chance to direct some af the focus off them and onto us, I guess. The NFL and CBS quickly came out with statements to say there was nothing to the allegations. So I guess we can get back to focusing on football.
